UPDATE ON REFURBISHMENT WORKS
LAST UPDATED ON 11 SEPTEMBER
To ensure that the workforce is able to observer current safe working practices, the contractors have reduced the numbers working on the project and have adopted the Site Operating Procedures, published by the Construction Leadership Council in alignment with the latest guidance from Public Health England.
This means that the works along Clarendon Road can continue and are progressing at a good pace. The improvements planned will:
repair and upgrade the road and pavements
enhance Clarendon Road as the town’s key hub for business and employment
provide a more attractive and pleasant place for residents and visitors
The first phase between Beechen Grove and St Johns Road is due for completion by Saturday 3 October. Due to delays caused by the pandemic and the recent adverse weather conditions, we will be extending the construction working hours up until 9pm Monday to Saturday to ensure the current phase is completed on time and the impact on you is minimised. The time is in line with the central government’s recovery plans to increase working hours to help the industry catch up on weeks missed from the pandemic and boost the economy.
We will also be undertaking carriageway resurfacing from the 21 September in the evening between 9pm and 5am, which will see Clarendon Road closed off from Beechen Grove to St Johns Road. The Highway Authority Hertfordshire County Council have requested we carry out these works early evening/over-night to ensure that northbound vehicle movements during the day are maintained.
