UPDATE ON REFURBISHMENT WORKS
LAST UPDATED ON 9 APRIL
To ensure that the workforce is able to observer current safe working practices, the contractors have reduced the numbers working on the project and have adopted the Site Operating Procedures, published by the Construction Leadership Council in alignment with the latest guidance from Public Health England.
This means that the works along Clarendon Road can continue and are progressing at a good pace. The improvements planned will:
repair and upgrade the road and pavements
enhance Clarendon Road as the town’s key hub for business and employment
provide a more attractive and pleasant place for residents and visitors
For the last few months we have concentrated on introducing a new surface water carrier drain, which is being laid at a depth of c. 1.3m. We have approx. 60m of new pipe to complete in Phase 1 (Beechen Grove to St John’s Road). We will then construct new manholes and make the connections to the Thames Water main sewer.
Over the next two months we will continue with the new granite footway paving along the west side of Clarendon Road, between Jury’s Inn and St John’s Road. The footway works include preparing the vehicle crossovers, using temporary materials at this stage, before the final surfacing layers are introduced towards the end of the Phase 1 programme. When the west side is completed we will work our way back along the east side. Towards the end of Phase 1 (September / October 2020) we will be laying the new carriageway surface.
