WHAT’S HAPPENING

PLANS

SAFER, MORE ATTRACTIVE

AND GREENER STREET

Led by Watford Borough Council, the £10.1m Clarendon Road transformation programme is supported by £5.1m Local Growth Fund investment from Hertfordshire LEP and £5m from Watford Borough Council and Hertfordshire County Council, with contributions from local developers and support from Watford BID.

The scheme ultimately looks to improve accessibility, wayfinding and lighting, connectivity, pedestrian and cycle circulation, street and road layout and air quality.

A whole host of major improvements are taking place on Clarendon Road until autumn 2023 to enhance both its role as a hub for business and employment, as well as provide a more attractive and pleasant place for the town’s residents and visitors.

♦ Widening of pavements to create a safe, pedestrian-friendly environment with greater social and recreation space

♦ New lighting and street furniture to create a more welcoming environment

♦ Rain gardens and tree planting to create a greener streetscape

♦ The ‘shifting edge’ concept will see widened pavements swap sides creating flexible spaces for social activities and offering street-scale benefits for pedestrians and local employees

There will be times during the works when vehicle lane closures will be necessary and, near the end of the programme, some overnight road closures will enable resurfacing to be completed. Residents and businesses will be given notice of closures and will be kept informed about the work as it progresses.

Visit the programme page for latest update of the work, showing approximate timescales, proposed road closures, traffic management measures, diversions  and more.
